The Veil
A participatory narrative research project excavating the future from the present.
The Veil is a self-initiated participatory narrative research project excavating the future from the present. It is being built at once as a portfolio piece, as an interactive narrative game in development, and as a system for working with narrative worlds rather than only reading them.
The concept extends beyond a single story. Fans should eventually be able to remix, rewrite, and research existing universes through the system. Authors should be able to use it against their own work to test tone, open new angles, and build more direct forms of collaboration with their audience.
What was built
The project already includes the site, the archive logic, multilingual structure, artifact pages, the prompt pipeline, and the Inference Engine. All core texts and the underlying concept are mine. AI helped build the site, supports translation, and runs the Inference Engine, but the narrative authorship remains human.
Where the difficulty is
The Inference Engine is the crucial systems layer and also the main unresolved problem. It works, but the output still needs fine-tuning. The real challenge is not getting text out of a model. The challenge is keeping it inside canon, stopping it from drifting off track, and moving it closer to my tone without flattening the strangeness that makes the world interesting.
Why it matters
The novelty is conceptual and structural at the same time. The Veil is not just a story site with some AI attached to it. It is a sober prototype for a new interface between narrative worlds, authors, and participants: part portfolio piece, part research system, part future product.
